History of the Lomita Kiwanis Scholarship Foundation
The Scholarship Foundation was started by a prominent Real Estate Broker Richard "Dick" Stevens. Dick donated 5 Real Estate Second Trust Deeds. As these Deeds became mature or were cashed out, the money was invested in Low Risk Mutual Funds. An anonymous donation in 2010 from an Estate Trust doubled the fund. As of April 2011 the balance is approximately $250,000. The interest at the end of the fiscal year is the amount that the Scholarship Committee awards to Narbonne Seniors for Scholarships, thus a perpetual scholarship fund. For the 2015 and 2016 years, the amount available for scholorships was $18,000.
The Lomita Kiwanis Foundation also funds one or more scholarships out of its annual operating fund for graduates from other area high schools. The dollars for these scholarships are raised each year through fundraisers and donations.
With your donation we can continue to provide support to the youth of the communities we serve through scholarships, grants, leadership training and more. Every dollar you contribute goes to this worthy cause.
